The topic of lesbians, gays, bisexual people, and transgenders (LGBT) are widely talked about or considered today in the American society. Many people consider these people different or wrong, while others support that love is love no matter who it is with. On Friday, June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court ruled to legalize same-sex marriage. This date marks forty-six years after the riot in New York, where the movement for gays civil rights first began. This issue ties to the first amendment in the Bill of Rights because this amendment specifically states that freedom of expression can never and will never be taken away from United States citizens. Therefore, some people believe they have the right to express their love freely, no matter if it is girl with girl or boy with boy, while others who don’t support it will also express their belief that same-sex marriage is wrong. There is still dispute over whether the legalization law infringes on the freedoms of religion, however, for now it is ruled constitutional. The United States is now the twenty-first country to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide. Everyone has their own opinion on everything and have the right to freely express it, but it does not always mean that their opinion is moral and respectful, nor expressed the right way. Same-sex marriage should be allowed because people should not be able to dictate who’s allowed to love who.
